His Majesty's Hostage - Volume 1 - Chapter 22

Chapter 22

ZiLi accepted Lian Pan’s invitation, and together they rode out of the palace one after the other in a palanquin 1 . Sitting in the palanquin, ZiLi’s heart was in a state of bliss! The fact that he could leave the palace meant that his chances of successfully escaping had greatly increased by a few points. As long as he had those few things ready, he could escape immediately under the pretense of going out of the palace for a drink. Then he would quickly change his appearance, buy a precious horse that travels a thousand of li 2 a day, and finally with one whip of a flog, he would be riding thousands of li, like those chivalrous men in novels!

Heh heh heh――

While ZiLi was triumphantly plotting his escape plan, which he thought was perfect, suddenly two unkempt 3 children with ragged clothes emerged from the crowd on the street, repeatedly looking back as they ran, as if a vicious dog was chasing them. Not paying attention, one of them bumped into the belly of a palanquin bearer.

The stable palanquin suddenly tilted severely to one side and then began to sway from side to side.

*Bam*

The palanquin had become unstable and ZiLi, who was inside, banged his head against the wooden frame like a monk ringing a bell.

“Ouch! That hurt like hell!” ZiLi grimaced in pain and touched the spot on his forehead that had started to swell, grabbed the door frame, lifted the curtain, and asked, “What the hell are you all doing?”

He saw that the palanquin bearers were staggering, swaying the palanquin to and fro, as they replied in reverence, “Your― Your Highness of Bei Ling, we― we servants didn’t do it on purpose! It’s all the fault of these two little beggars!”

They were truly frightened. Although the man in front of them was a Hostage Prince sent by another country, in the Imperial Palace he was treated just like a real prince, or even more respectful and generous. If you made him unhappy, you could lose your head! So they quickly laid the blame on these two little unlucky brats.

“You two little brats, are still you running away? When I catch you, we’ll see if I don’t hang you on the city wall for a few days! Suddenly, a handsome young man dressed in a bluish green robe and a jade crown on his head, in order to pass the crowd, jumped over the crowd, using Qinggong 4 and landed in front of ZiLi’s palanquin.

At this moment, the palanquin bearers were even more panic-stricken and began to perspire profusely! The two children circled around the palanquin as if they had found something that could protect them, and from time to time they tugged at the palanquin bearers, forcing them to turn the palanquin sideways and intercept the man from pursuing. They ran through the wooden crossbar to the left, and then rolled under the palanquin to the right, as agile as two monkeys. Although the man who was pursuing them knew martial arts and his skills were very high, in the face of these two children who had an advantage due to their small stature and the terrain, which was suitable for them to fight, he could only let them escape from his grasp again and again.

ZiLi could no longer bear the shaking, which made him feel like he was on a swing, and he snarled angrily, “You bastards, just put that palanquin down!”

His snarl was a wake-up call to the palanquin bearers, and immediately several of them put down the palanquin. Now, the two children had lost their shield that could block their pursuer, so they cast a quick glance at each other, and then simultaneously turned around and ran in two different directions into the alleys.

The man was stunned for a moment, then quickly raised his foot and kicked up a small stone on the ground. The stone accurately hit one of the children’s acupuncture points, after which the man quickly moved in front of the other child and pulled him back with his large hand. The man smiled triumphantly at them and then carried them one in each hand, as if he were showing off his trophies.

The two children struggled in silence, their piercing eyes staring fiercely at the man facing them.

“Hmm? So? Is there any reason for you two brats to steal this uncle’s 5 wallet?”

Brother JinYu 6 , what happened?” Lian Pan asked as he stepped down from the palanquin. A moment ago, when he was still traveling, he suddenly noticed that ZiLi’s palanquin was no longer following him. He could not help but think it was strange, so he had asked the palanquin bearers to return, and now he discovered that ZiLi’s palanquin had stopped here.

“These two children were――”

Just as ZiLi was about to explain, he was suddenly interrupted by Lian Pan’s cry of fear.

“Ah, isn’t this Prince Qing? This lowly Official must be blind, only now to find out that Your Highness the Prince is here. This lowly Official deserves to die. Please, Prince Qing forgive me!”

Lian Pan quickly knelt down and flattered him respectfully.

“You are excused!” Hong Qing said, not even looking at him.

When ZiLi heard that the handsome man in front of him was actually that Ninth Prince Hong Qing, with the unkempt beard, who had pierced the roof that one time, he was so shocked that his jaw almost dislocated.

Is― isn’t the difference too big?

The two children in Hong Qing’s hands immediately stopped struggling when they heard that the man before them was a prince. They looked at Hong Qing with bright eyes. One of them seemed to want to speak, but the other hastily pulled on his sleeve and lightly shook his head at him, and the child who wanted to speak immediately obediently shut his mouth. Hong Qing saw the subtle movements of the two, but said nothing about it.

“You― Are you that Hong Qing? As in the Ninth Prince, Hong Qing?” ZiLi closed his jaw and pointed at him to confirm again.

“Yes, that’s right! Ah, aren’t you the male attendant of my Imperial Elder Brother?” When Hong Qing saw ZiLi, he immediately dropped the trophies in his hands and moved closer to ZiLi, saying with a smile on his face, “I’ve been trying to find you ever since, but my Imperial Elder Brother refuses to tell me who you are. Who would have thought that I would meet you here, we must have been brought together by fate!”

When ZiLi heard the two words ‘male attendant’, he felt irritated and said very displeased, “I am the Third Prince of Bei Ling, An JinYu. Not some male pet of your Imperial Elder Brother.”

“Oh, that Hostage Prince of Bei Ling, is you?” Hong Qing did not realize that he had offended the other and continued talking.

ZiLi became somewhat mad in his heart and then said coldly and stiffly, “This Highness has some business to attend to, so I’ll have to excuse myself!”

After speaking, he cupped his hands perfunctorily and took a seat in the palanquin, only to find that Lian Pan was still kneeling on the ground, dumbfounded. “Hey, brother Lian Pan, don’t tell me you want to spend the night here?”

“Oh, eh― Then, Prince Qing, this lowly Official shall also excuse himself!” Lian Pan once again paid his respects and then stood up.

“Oh, where are you two planning to go?” Hong Qing asked as soon as he heard they would be leaving. After all, it was very difficult to meet again, so how could he let ZiLi leave so soon?

“We are going to the House of Xiang Wan to listen to the music. Is Prince Qing also interested in coming along?” Before ZiLi could speak, Lian Pan had already quickly replied, with an obvious obscene smirk on his face.

ZiLi frowned in disgust. Are all of An JinYu’s friends so dissolute?

“The House of Xiang Wan? That seems like a nice place, so This Prince will also come along. Brother JinYu, would you let me come along?”

Brother JinYu? Since when have we been so close that you can call me that? ZiLi’s face was full of black lines as he looked at Hong Qing’s puppy eyes.

How old is this guy anyway?

“If Prince Qing wants to come along, we are naturally overjoyed. Then does Prince Qing condescend to sit in this Official’s palanquin?”

“No! This Prince does not want to sit in your palanquin, but This Prince wants to sit with brother JinYu.” As soon as he finished speaking, he immediately bent to get into the palanquin, squeezed himself next to ZiLi, and instructed the palanquin bearers, “Raise the palanquin.”

ZiLi got gloomy! The palanquin was already small, and this large man had unfortunately, desperately squeezed himself in, causing ZiLi to become like a meat patty, wedged between the man and the wooden frame of the palanquin.

“Can’t you move over a little?” ZiLi said, gritting his teeth lightly.

Hong Qing was also sitting rather uncomfortable, he looked around but saw that there was no room to move over to and then looked at ZiLi next to him and said, “I can’t move over, so why don’t you sit on my lap? In that way, everyone can sit comfortable!”

ZiLi looked at the man who spoke without thinking, his eyes flashing with anger.

Seeing that ZiLi said nothing, Hong Qing thought he agreed, so he put his big hands around ZiLi’s waist and lifted him vigorously and placed him on his lap.

ZiLi only felt his body lighten, and when he returned to his senses, he was already sitting on the man's lap.

Calm down! Calm down!

ZiLi’s was breathing heavily, mobilizing all his willpower to suppress the desire of beating him up that was clamoring and boiling in his heart.

However, in the end, he failed.

“Argh――”

“Die――You pervert――”
