The Elegant Dancing Years - Chapter 66 - Volume 2

Chapter 66 - Confrontation

After promising Yan Qing to save the person, Qi Mingyue returned to the palace. Wu Yao had already returned, his aura hidden in the shadows seemed no different from before, but for some reason Qi Mingyue felt that the other was even more empty and somewhat absent-minded. Recalling the gaze that he had sensed in front of Liufang Pavilion, as well as the back of the figure that had left, coupled with the recent abnormality of Wu Yao, it was impossible to say that there was no connection between them.

He had a suspicion in his heart, yet had not asked the other about it. Wu Yao, who was always like a ghost, let Qi Mingyue have some inexplicable trust in him for unknown reason, so he was not willing to pry freely into the other’s past.

Putting aside his worries about Wu Yao, Qi Mingyue remembered what he had promised Yan Qing, and had a bit of a headache about how to explain it to his Imperial father. Looking at the sky to see what time it was, Qi Mingyue straightened his robes and went to the Imperial study.

The palace maids and guards on the way all greeted him, addressing him as ‘Your Highness the Crown Prince’, making Qi Mingyue feel a little uncomfortable. Since he had become the Crown Prince, the attitude of others towards him had become more respectful, but to him it felt as if nothing had changed about his situation. His food and clothes were already the same as his Imperial father’s, and even though he was now the Crown Prince, it was just the same as before.

With greetings on the way wishing him a good health, Qi Mingyue arrived at the door of the Imperial study. Naturally, there were numerous guards guarding the door, but Head Steward Lin was nowhere to be seen, presumably he was inside to attend to his Imperial father.

When he reached the door, a guard saw him approaching and hurriedly saluted, and then wanted to report inside, but another guard quietly grabbed his sleeve, signaling with his eyes. Before he could react, the other guard had already opened the door for Qi Mingyue.

Anyone who had been in the palace for a long time knew how much His Majesty favored the Second Prince back then. As long as there was a place the Second Prince wanted to go, no one could stop him. If the Second Prince wished to see His Majesty, no matter when and where, they had to let him through. Now that the Second Prince had returned, not only had the favored Third Prince become a prisoner, but the Second Prince had also been bestowed the title of Crown Prince by His Majesty. Although several years had passed, it seemed that His Majesty’s favor for him had not diminished one little bit, and the Second Prince was still as he was then, the only Prince among all the Princes to receive the favor and trust of His Majesty.

Look at the others Princes, His Majesty only asked about them every now and then, how could they compare to the favor the Second Prince received? In this Imperial palace, it could be said that besides His Majesty, the Second Prince, now His Highness the Crown Prince, had the most honorable status. If they, as guards, did not know how to read people, they might one day lose their heads without knowing why.

Pulling aside his companion, who was still hesitant, the guard began a long lecture in which he recounted in detail everything that had happened regarding His Highness the Crown Prince.

Qi Mingyue heard the others talking behind him and revealed a hint of a smile. These days, listening to the ubiquitous whispers and rumors, he finally felt that he had indeed returned to the palace.

When he entered the Imperial study, the same familiar furniture still stood before him. The incense burner was burning with the familiar cold incense, the same as in his Imperial father’s bedchamber. By the writing desk, Head Steward Liu was waiting quietly, still expressionless as usual, and his Imperial father was leaning lazily against the back of his chair, seemingly casually writing something on a Memorial 1 .

“Ming’er has come back, Yan Qing did not keep you?” When Qi Xutian saw him enter and thought of where he had returned from, he added some teasing to his tone. Surely, after that day, in all likelihood, Yan Qing would not dare speak coquettishly to his Ming’er again.

“He did not dare.” With a chuckle, Qi Mingyue recalled the terrified look he had seen on Yan Qing’s face today and felt slightly amused. “Even if I, this male pet, am charming, how can I compare to the legacy of the Dark Emperor?”

Hearing his former name from Ming’er was no surprise, but Yan Qing’s misconception made Qi Xutian angry and heartbroken. Stopping his brush, Qi Xutian’s expression grew cold, “He actually dared to regard Ming’er as a male pet?” His expression immediately sank, and he furrowed his brows. His hawk-like keen eyes shot out a sharp, cold light as the anger rose in Qi Xutian because of Yan Qing’s words.

When Head Steward Liu, who was standing on the side, heard this, a dark look also swept over him.

He sensed that the two of them were displeased, but Qi Mingyue himself did not feel aggrieved. “Father Emperor, there is no need to explain to others what is going on between you and me. Whether or not Mingyue is a male pet is no concern to anyone else, so Father Emperor don’t you think that getting angry for this reason is a bit excessive?”

Liu Yi narrowed his eyes, he naturally knew that given the nature of His Highness, he would not mind the words of others, otherwise he would not have come this far with His Majesty.

But Qi Xutian still could not get over it. How could his Ming’er be the same as a male pet? When he thought of Yan Qing’s words, the cold look in his eyes became even more intense.

Qi Mingyue never expected that his thoughtless remark would again cause displeasure to his Imperial father and probably caused trouble for Yan Qing. But when he thought of what he had promised Yan Qing, he had no choice but to continue, “That day, Yan Qing invited me to Liufang Pavilion just to save someone, there was no malice. Today, Mingyue has already agreed to go with him to save that person.”

As he spoke, he recounted what Yan Qing had told him. Having also been poisoned by Gu poison, he naturally knew how powerful it was. If there was a way to save the other person, he would not mind helping. Besides, there was a speculation in his heart about the Gu poison. . . . . .

“It seems that Ming’er has already made up his mind, so what else to say to your Father Emperor? Just go,” he spoke indifferently, but Qi Xutian’s words were ice-cold. He had already been angered by Yan Qing’s words, but now he was even more upset that his Ming’er was leaving the palace again.

After saying that, Qi Xutian stopped talking, and the atmosphere in the Imperial study immediately froze. Liu Yi observed His Majesty’s expression, and then looked at His Highness, who was standing by the side. He felt that it was currently not appropriate to stay here, and that some matters between His Majesty and His Highness might be better resolved in private. With a slight bow, he quietly left the Imperial study, leaving the two of them in the study to continue their confrontation.

In the extremely quiet study, cold incense filled the room, while by the writing desk two people, one sitting and one standing, remained silent and did not utter a word.

When Qi Xutian thought of Ming’er going out of the palace to personally save someone for Yan Qing, anger welled up in his chest. When he looked at his Ming’er standing beside him, with his face averted and his expression hidden, yet alone, he could not help but feel his heart soften. He reached out to take the other in his arms, but as soon as he raised his hand, Qi Mingyue turned his back on him.

Looking at the young man’s stubborn back, Qi Xutian felt a sense of restlessness he had never felt before. He frowned as he watched the other take a few steps away and stand in front of another writing desk.

“Mingyue remembers that when I was young, Father Emperor would review Memorials in the study, and I would study and practice calligraphy here......” Standing in front of the familiar desk, Qi Mingyue stretched out his hand and slid his fingertips across the desk. In the Imperial study, in addition to the desk used by his Imperial father, there was also a special desk for him. When he was only five years old, his Imperial father had specially commissioned someone to make a desk the size that was suitable for his body at that time. Now it seemed it was no longer suitable for use, but it had not been removed since it was posted here.

Qi Xutian just listened and did not speak, watching the other’s back, as the clear and pleasant voice sounded in the spacious Imperial study. “…… Now, Mingyue is already fifteen years old and not the same child from before. Father Emperor must also know that Mingyue is no ordinary person, and although I have reached the point with Father Emperor where we devote our heart and entrust our body to each other, Mingyue is absolutely not Father Emperor’s subordinate. I have always treated Father Emperor as an equal. If I really depend on Father Emperor for everything and need your permission to act, what is the difference between Mingyue and a male pet that other people speak of?”

Upon hearing these words, Qi Xutian’s eyes grew cold, displeased that his Ming’er was comparing himself to a male pet again. However, he also began to ponder because of the other’s words, as he looked at the young man who was slowly looking sideways, while standing at a place not far away. The other’s leisure posture, slender and straight, although he had just reached the age of maturity, already showed an elusive and mysterious temperament that was both noble and calm, with a touch of elegance and serenity. The lips that always smiled were still slightly raised and there was no trace of anger in the other’s expression, but in the eyes that met his, there was an unwavering confidence and arrogance.

This was his Ming’er. With a sigh, a certain indescribable feeling rose in Qi Xutian’s heart. A mixture of joy and admiration that such an extraordinary young man belonged to him. The unpremeditated feeling of pride caused him to show a smile of delight, which became more and more pronounced and gradually turned into a loud laugh.

The deep laughter echoed in the Imperial study, dispelling the previously cold and heavy atmosphere. As Qi Xutian’s laughter echoed, Qi Mingyue’s lips also curled slightly as he slowly approached the other.

“Father Emperor is no longer angry?” Qi Mingyue asked softly as he looked up.

“Your Father Emperor was wrong, and should have known that Ming’er could never be manipulated by others. Ming’er has always had his own ideas and decisions, never relying on others. That is exactly the kind of Ming’er your Father Emperor loves, and therefore should not get angry about this. If you have made up your mind, go ahead and do it, Father Emperor will no longer stop you.” As a ruler, he had always been used to letting others do his bidding and was used to having everything under control, but everything about his Ming’er had become an uncontrollable variable. If he forced Ming’er to change his mind this time, he would really be treating Ming’er like a male pet, as Yan Qing had said, and that would be an insult to his Ming’er. Ming’er was the most valuable treasure in his life, and since he already could not let go of him in this life, how could he just do whatever he wanted and lock his Ming’er in the palace and erase the other’s true nature?

In the end, with a sigh, Qi Xutian pulled Qi Mingyue into his arms, embraced his body and placed a light kiss on his lips, “Will Ming’er blame his Father Emperor for being too overbearing?”

“If it weren’t for Father Emperor’s overbearing ways, how could Mingyue and Father Emperor have gotten to where we are now?” Qi Mingyue asked with raised eyebrows, not minding at all what had happened earlier. His Imperial father’s overbearing ways as Emperor, as well as his Imperial father’s way of handling things, had made him unable to help but feel attracted to the other. Sitting in his Imperial father’s embrace, he wrapped his arms around the other’s neck, naturally knowing in his heart where his Imperial father’s displeasure from earlier came from.

“It has only been a few days since Mingyue returned to the palace and I am about to leave again. So, it is only right that Father Emperor is upset.” After parting his lips slightly, he licked and kissed Qi Xutian’s neck. At the thought of him leaving again while they were just back together, Qi Mingyue also felt a bit reluctant in his heart.

“Your Father Emperor is more than upset, and would just like to hide you in my arms so no one can see you.” Reaching out with his hand to stop Ming’er’s movements, Qi Xutian raised Qi Mingyue’s face, “Are you trying to provoke your Father Emperor again? Although your Father Emperor has agreed to you, in his heart he still has not let go. If Ming’er does not behave, your Father Emperor will have to punish you.” His deep and low voice was slightly repressed as he had been concerned about Ming’er’s body for the past few days. Since the last time he had tasted it, he had not done anything more intimate than the occasional kisses, but now Ming’er’s inadvertent teasing had aroused the suppressed lust in his heart.

Qi Mingyue just smiled and reached into the lapels of Qi Xutian’s robe with his hand and slowly pulled them open. “Father Emperor if you want to punish, go ahead, when has Ming’er ever been afraid.” The color of his eyes darkened a little, looking at the lapels in front of him that he had torn open, and gently taking a bite of that honey-colored chest, Qi Mingyue gave a provocative look.

Hearing these words, and his heart aroused by the meaning in the other’s eyes, Qi Xutian revealed a slight smile that was both dangerous and demonically charming. “Since Ming’er has said so, how can your Father Emperor let you down? Your Father Emperor is only afraid that when the time comes, Ming’er will not be able to bear it and will cause your Father Emperor’s heart to ache.” Turning over Ming’er’s body and spreading his legs to sit on top of him, Qi Xutian hinted with his eyes that if Ming’er refused at this point, he was really afraid that he would not be able to control himself and still want him.

Seeing the meaning in his eyes, Qi Mingyue licked his lips, and replied ambiguously, “Father Emperor’s heart will ache for Ming’er, but will Ming’er’s heart also ache for Father Emperor?” With his seductive words, he lightly touched the hard part on Qi Xutian’s lower body and moved his body slightly, feeling that it was a little scorching hot there.
