Dripping water echoed through the cavern, while dim light filtered across the damp air and wide space. ZiLi lay motionless in this cave that carried the scent of moss as he blankly stared at the dripping wet stone ceiling above him, while silently enduring the pervasive chill hanging in the air.
A long cry rang out as the Lin Long, returning from its outing, swept up a strong gust of wind and landed at the cave entrance. It folded its wings and slowly paced over to ZiLi, dropping a freshly caught slender silvery-white fish with a ‘thud’.
ZiLi gave a soft cough and turned to look at the creature, one that differed greatly from the rumors and had never existed in his original world. Its scales glowed faintly blue in the dim light of the cave, and each breath from its nostrils spilling out in a cold white mist. Its eyes were pure gold, with pupils narrow as blades. It was like a dragon

ZiLi did not understand why it had suddenly swooped down at the moment they fell from the cliff and seized them both around the waist, nor why it had flung General WanQi back onto the cliffside while abducting him here instead! Was it planning to eat him? If so, ZiLi would rather have fallen to his death! But after some observation, ZiLi’s initial fear had turned to calm. The Lin Long showed no sign of treating him as food. Instead, it brought back medicinal herbs to heal his wounds and caught slender silvery-white fish and wild fruits for him to eat.
The embodiment of disaster and evil? ZiLi was curious why people outside had such rumors about it.
Seeing ZiLi still in a daze, the Lin Long nudged the slender silvery-white fish towards him.
“Thank you!” Although he did not know whether it could understand him, ZiLi still expressed his gratitude.
The slender silvery-white fish from the cold pond was fresh and delicious, and even when eaten raw, it carried no fishy or greasy taste.
Seeing ZiLi finish eating, the Lin Long walked to the cave entrance, spread its wings with a flourish, and flew off!
ZiLi supported himself against the rock wall and made his way to the cave entrance. The cave was located on a cliff that was tens of meters above the ground, with below a pond so deep one could not see to the bottom. The upstream, river water formed a waterfall that plunged straight down, carving out a natural reservoir.
Such a high place! Indeed, only suitable for creatures with wings! Although the cliff was covered in vines, it would take great courage for a person to climb down!

“Graah――” The Lin Long ascended into the sky, circling repeatedly as it issued a long cry. In the past, it would never have revealed its presence so openly.“Your Majesty, the Lin Long has flown away. Should we go up and rescue him now?” a general who had been lurking at the bottom of the cliff for a long time could not help but ask.
Hong Xu stared intently at the figure appearing at the entrance of the cave. How could he not want to rush forward at once and lock ZiLi firmly in his embrace? But reason told him that it was not the right time yet. No one could guarantee the Lin Long would not suddenly return.
Clutching his crossbow in his hand, Hong Xu glowered at the Lin Long in the sky. If he was going to do it, he might as well go all the way. Just like ten years ago, he could kill one!
“Neigh――” a high-pitched whinny caught the Lin Long’s attention.
ZiLi leaned over the edge of the cave, incredulous as he watched the black horse below, rearing and neighing. Fierce and magnificent, with proud, commanding eyes, who else could it be but Qu Zi?
In the sky, the Lin Long dove menacingly towards the black horse.
“Qu Zi, quick get out of the way――” ZiLi shouted anxiously.
But the black horse paid it no heed, remaining still and even somewhat leisurely as it faced the charging giant creature. Just as they were about to collide, the Lin Long suddenly pulled up, skimming in a tight arc over the black horse’s forehead, then performing a midair somersault before landing directly in front of the black horse. It exhaled a burst of white mist, and then, it stunned all onlookers by suddenly leaning in, nuzzling affectionately against the black horse’s neck.
The scene grew more absurd the longer one looked at it. An enormous creature was leaning against a horse like a little bird relying on people, while the black horse accepted the affection with an expression of complete composure.
“Can anyone tell me what kind of act this is supposed to be?” ZiLi murmured, voicing what everyone else was thinking.
A sharp neigh rang out, and the Lin Long immediately straightened up and stood obediently. Qu Zi shook its mane, then raised its neck toward ZiLi and bared its teeth. At once, the Lin Long spread its wings and flew up to the cave, gently taking hold of the back of ZiLi’s collar in its jaws before slowly carrying him down to the ground.
Hong Xu held his breath, fearing the Lin Long might lose its grip.

At last, his feet touched the ground. Before ZiLi could let out a sigh of relief, a dark figure suddenly rushed over and pulled him tightly into an embrace. The familiar scent made his arms and legs, which had been about to struggle, freeze for a moment. Then he began struggling again, even more resolutely than before.“Baby, don’t be afraid, it’s me!” Hong Xu whispered in ZiLi’s ear.
“Let go, I want to stand!”
Seeing ZiLi immediately pull away and put distance between them, Hong Xu was slightly stunned. “What is wrong? Are you angry I did not come to save you, and you got scared? Baby, I know I was wrong. Don’t be angry, all right?”
“It’s not that! I just think it’s better not to be so intimate in front of others!” ZiLi lowered his eyes, avoiding Hong Xu’s gaze.
“Graah――” Suddenly, a faint long cry was heard.
The Lin Long immediately raised its head, and the black horse pricked up its ears. It was a somewhat childlike cry.
“Graah, gaa――”
Everyone turned toward the sound and saw a young dragon, about the size of a horse, flying unsteadily toward them. When it noticed a crowd of foreign creatures gathered at its home entrance, it immediately halted its advance and hovered hesitantly above its mother’s head, letting out cries as it circled.
The Lin Long shot up into the air, grabbed the son who had been out on his own for two days, and tossed him down in front of the black horse. The young dragon shook its head in grievance, its two beautiful red horns swaying. ZiLi then noticed that the base of its wings was actually wrapped in a strip of white silk. The poor little thing was actually injured! But then, who had bandaged it?

The young dragon looked at the black horse in front of it, blinking its watery eyes, then suddenly let out an affectionate cry and pounced forward to nuzzle against it.ZiLi was now deeply puzzled about Qu Zi. How could a mere horse make a so called evil dragon from the rumors act so intimately toward it? Was Qu Zi really just a horse?
“Your Majesty, how should we deal with this Lin Long?” one of his subordinates walked up to Hong Xu and asked in a low voice.
“……The Lin Long is indeed not a benign creature!” Hong Xu pondered for a moment and gave a meaningful look.
Those who caught his meaning immediately drew their bows and aimed at the Lin Long, which remained completely unaware in the middle of the scene.
ZiLi was greatly shocked. “What, why are you all going to kill it?”
“Don’t go over there!” Hong Xu pulled ZiLi to his side.
“Wait, Hong Xu. The Lin Long isn’t like the rumors say. On the contrary, they are gentle and docile, and didn’t it even save General WanQi and me?” ZiLi gripped Hong Xu’s sleeve tightly, his face full of pleading.
Realizing something was wrong, the Lin Long immediately turned around in alert. Seeing the crowd with swords drawn and bows bent, it flared its wings in fury at once. In an instant, a violent wind rose, sending sand and stones swirling through the air and blinding everyone’s vision. By the time the dust settled, the two Lin Longs had already soared high into the sky, circling once before disappearing into the clouds.
With nothing they could do, the crowd could only mutter a few resentful curses and return home in frustration.
