His Majesty's Hostage - Volume 1 - Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Upon awakening from the chaotic darkness, Su ZiLi was immediately struck by an unbearable pain and he could not help but groan. Slowly he opened his eyes and saw that there was a hazy figure in his line of sight. “Your Highness, you are finally awake!” said a voice with joy. “Chun Lan, ask the Imperial Physician to come and see us.”

“All right.”

ZiLi blinked his eyes and his vision finally became clear. An unfamiliar woman with a clear and elegant face entered his sight. ZiLi opened his mouth trying to speak, but his throat was too dry to make any sound. Upon seeing this, the woman brought him a glass of fresh water.

“Who are you? What is this place?” ZiLi, who could barely make a sound, asked impatiently. This is not a hospital, there are no doctors. But there is a beautiful woman in ancient clothes, this is an unfamiliar place. This is so strange! Where the hell am I?

Just as ZiLi was in a state of disbelief, Ming Yue was also puzzled.

Why doesn't His Highness recognize me? And asked what this place is?

After living here for twelve years, she believed he should be more familiar with this palace than with the palace of his own country.

Could it be the fault of his serious injury? Then I'll have to ask the Imperial Physician to take a good look at it.

“Your Highness, I am Ming Yue, this is the Imperial Palace of the Empire of Chu Jing,” replied the maid Ming Yue, truthfully.

'Your Highness? The Empire of Chu Jing? Imperial Palace?' What the hell is that? This isn't a psychiatric hospital, right?!

ZiLi looked up and glanced at Ming Yue, who looked concerned at the moment.

But she doesn't look mentally ill at all!

ZiLi wanted to get up, but a burst of pain made him fall back on his pillow. “Your Highness, you must not move. The Imperial Physician said that otherwise the wound will split open.” Ming Yue hastily supported ZiLi.

“How did my chest get hurt?” ZiLi looked at his chest, which was wrapped in layers of white cloth.

“Ming Yue only knows that His Highness was wounded by an arrow, and fell asleep for eight days. But I don't know about the rest,” Ming Yue answered.

Arrow? Heavens, this is something that was only used in ancient times.

ZiLi had a bad chill. Don’t tell me, I went back to ancient times like Xiang ShaoLong 1 .

“What dynasty is it now?” ZiLi looked at Ming Yue's clothes, not knowing which dynasty it was. “Qin Dynasty? Han Dynasty? Tang Dynasty? It's not the Warring States period, is it?” Ming Yue shook her head in confusion.

“Oh, forget it!” ZiLi sighed dejectedly.

ZiLi's head was now in a mess. I have already died in that fire and then reincarnated. No rather, my soul transmigrated to ancient China or a place similar to ancient China, into the body of a prince of a country. Am I dead or not? Heavens, I'm going crazy!

“Does His Highness have a headache?” Ming Yue watched and asked ZiLi, who was muttering and hitting his head.

“Oh, no,” ZiLi hid his embarrassment, “the wound just hurts.”

“Your Highness, the Imperial Physician has arrived.” A young maid appeared at the door and respectfully led the Imperial Physician with a mustache in the shape of the character 八, with small quick steps to ZiLi.

Ming Yue bowed. “ Your Excellency 2 , His Highness of Bei Ling said his wound hurts, You 3 ….”

“If he is already awake, it is nothing serious. Who would not be in pain if they got injured?” The Imperial Physician glanced at ZiLi, his tone was very annoyed. “ This old man 4 still has a lot of work to do at the Imperial Medical Hall, so you 5 should not keep summoning this old man and delaying our 6 work.”

Ming Yue and the others were not surprised when they heard those words. Although the master they served was a prince, he was not a prince of Chu Jing, but a prince of an enemy country. To put it bluntly, he was just a lowly prisoner. Who of the few palace attendants and Officials who called for His Highness thought highly of him?

But ZiLi was astonished when he heard those words. Was he not the prince now? Didn’t all the princes portrayed on TV get whatever they wanted? Then why was he currently treated with so much contempt?

Oh well, I should just go with it, things are already strange enough anyway. ZiLi closed his eyes and soon fell asleep.

When he woke up again, he did not know what time it was. He saw only the candlelight inside the room. Ming Yue was keeping watch by his bed, holding her cheek in her hand and her eyes hazy with sleep.

A warm feeling suddenly rose in ZiLi's heart, he had not experienced such a warm scene in ages. He only remembered that when he was sick as a child, his mother would stay at his bedside all night, watching with a gentle gaze. But since his father had an affair, his parents’ relationship had deteriorated. Their daily routine was fighting and sometimes even exchanging blows. After a year of being entangled with each other like this, the marriage finally came to an end. Then the two went their separate ways, leaving him behind. Alone in the original warm, but now riddled with holes, home.

Ming Yue was the first who woke up, saw that ZiLi's eyes were slightly red and jumped up. “What happened, Your Highness? Does the wound hurt?”

ZiLi shook his head slightly and said sadly, “Ming Yue, I may never be able to go back!”

Ming Yue thought he was talking about returning to his own country, Bei Ling, so she did not know how to comfort him at the moment. She had to divert ZiLi's attention, “His Highness has not eaten properly in the past few days because you were in coma. Ming Yue is going to get some snacks now, will that be alright?”

Upon hearing her saying those words, ZiLi's stomach immediately responded with a few growling sounds.

Ming Yue slightly lifted the corners of her mouth and chuckled, “Your Highness, wait a minute. I'll be right back.”

Translation Notes
  • 项少龙 - Xiàng ShàoLóng - Main Character from '尋秦記/ A Step into the Past', this person also goes back in time.
  • 大人 - DàRen - Title of respect toward superiors.
  • This 'you' is a polite version.
  • 老夫 - LǎoFū – ‘I’ spoken by an old man.
  • This 'you' is plural.
  • 我们 - WǒMen – ‘Our’ is used, so I guess it refers to him and his people.
