His Majesty's Hostage - Volume 1 - Chapter 4

Chapter 4

When Su ZiLi awoke from his sleep, the day was already bright. After struggling with it for three days, ZiLi, who had always believed in the principle of ‘It is as it is, you should accept it’, finally accepted the fact that ‘he just had to deal with it’. Now thinking about it, he was actually not living too badly at the moment as a Young Master 1 . Every day he slept and ate until he was full and when he finished eating he slept again. In addition, every time he had a meal, a group of beautiful maids fed him with their own hands in his mouth. Even modern rich people did not have this kind of treatment. Although he was living materially like a Young Master, he was mentally like poor people. Since he had to recuperate from his injury, he had no choice but to be forced to lie down in bed. His only activity was to be carried outside the door of his room by his attendants to bask in the sun.

ZiLi became very depressed. Several times he wanted to shout that he wanted to get out of bed and go for a walk, but he was unable to counter the teary appearance of Ming Yue. So, he had no choice but to obediently lie down on the bed or couch like a living dead.

After more than a month of recovery, the injury to his chest was almost healed. The arrow wound, which looked terrifying at the time, did not actually hit a vital part and luckily passed through the gaps between his various inner organs.

Now that all the scabs had fallen off, ZiLi finally obtained the permission to get out of bed and got to possess the ability to make his own decision about his actions. Just one word ―― invigorating!

ZiLi opened the door of his room, stood outside in the corridor and stretched out greatly towards the sun. Then he took a deep breath and smelled the fresh and clean scent of the flowers and plants in the courtyard.

“Spin to your left three times, spin to your right three times. Move your neck and sway your bottom. Early to bed and early to rise; Let's do exercise! Shake your hands, shake your legs. Diligently do some deep breathing. Learn to sing and dance with grandpa, then you won't get old 2 .”

ZiLi hummed and sang laughing, while putting his hand on his hips and moving his thighs to loosen his muscles. When he came to his senses, he found that the maids were all staring at him with dumbfounded faces.

“Uh, HaHaHaHa. Good morning, everyone! You are all here!! The weather today is great!!!” ZiLi immediately laughed dryly.

“Your Highness, are you hungry? Ming Yue will prepare something for you right away. But go wash yourself first, Your Highness!” inquired Ming Yue promptly, who was the first to come to her senses.

“Good, go― go quickly, or my, *cough*, This Highness, his stomach will be so hungry that his chest will stick to his back 3 . Ming Yue, I want to eat the Lotus Seed Cake 4 you made yesterday .” ZiLi’s mouth was dripping with saliva as he shouted at Ming Yue from behind.

He thought of how he used to be, putting food in his mouth, whether it was sweet or salty, as long as it could be eaten and filled his stomach! Unlike now, where he disliked it if it was too sweet, too greasy or tasteless. Apparently Ming Yue had indeed spoiled his mouth!

After eating and drinking until he was full, ZiLi thought it was time to get down to business. This so-called business of course was ―― to go for a walk and investigate this time and place to actually understand his living circumstances.

This was very important, extraordinary important. When foreigners check into a hotel, the first thing they do is to check the escape routes in that hotel to prevent them from running around in disorder like a headless fly in case of a fire. That is why most of the people who have died in a fire are Chinese who usually think that it is not necessary to do these things. *Cough, Cough* Although a certain person also died in a fire... but... but he could not be blamed for that. If the escape routes were blocked by debris, he would not be able to run even if he wanted to run, right? So, you cannot blame him! Eh, he digressed, he should return.

ZiLi walked through a small courtyard to a huge gate. Just as he was barely sticking his head out, he heard a ‘click’ and two shiny Guangong weapons 5 were crossed three millimeters from the tip of his nose.

If the Imperial Bodyguards made a mistake in their calculations while holding the weapons, his nose would be no more. ZiLi felt a bad chill run down his spine, and he immediately took a few steps back.

“You―― , why don't you let me out?” ZiLi asked, somewhat angrily.

“It is not safe outside, so Your Highness, it is better not to come out, otherwise there will be another accident. We cannot afford to risk it,” said the two guards at the gate sternly.

ZiLi had been held back for so long and was finally with great difficulty able to walk around. But now he was told he was ‘not allowed’? This was no different from the feeling of being splashed by a cold-water bath in the middle of winter.

ZiLi was now furious and felt wronged, moreover he finally felt deeply the desolation of being away from home.

He walked back in low spirits, his slumped back seemed covered with dark clouds.

“Your Highness, what is the matter?” Ming Yue, who had just made the bed, turned around and saw ZiLi, who had just walked out in high spirits, walking very slowly inside with his head hanging down.

ZiLi shook his head, sat in his chair and sighed, “Ming Yue, am I really a prince? Why don’t I feel like I have the status of a prince at all?”

Ming Yue was stumped for words when she heard what was said, then immediately forced a smile and said, “Your Highness is a prince, of course, but… it is just that the situation is a little different!”

“Different? How? How is my current situation different?”

Ming Yue was stunned again and looked suspiciously at ZiLi. Why did she feel that His Highness had changed a little since he was injured? Not only did he ask some weird questions, but he also seemed to be unable to remember things from the past.

As soon as the question came out, ZiLi knew that he had revealed himself. He was about to say something to divert her attention, but Ming Yue started to talk, “Because Your Highness is a ZhiZi! A prince who is sent hostage to another country by his own country and has no status at all.”

ZhiZi? Aha, in the age of rivalry, countries were suspicious and jealous of each other and used each other, so some weak countries would send their royal descendants as hostages to show their trustworthiness. It turned out that he was actually a ZhiZi, who would likely be used as cannon fodder once a war would break out! Now that he thought about it, he understood why so many people around him looked down on him! So, it was because he was a ZhiZi 6 ! Ugh, he was really unlucky!!

While ZiLi was still trying to process this fact, Ming Yue went on to say, “Your Highness, Ming Yue is bold enough to tell you that Ming Yue has always wanted to let Your Highness know. As a maid who watched His Highness grow up, although Ming Yue is from Chu Jing, Ming Yue has always treated His Highness as her younger brother. Ever since His Highness was injured, Ming Yue has always felt that His Highness has changed a lot, as if he has turned into a new person. Although His Highness has become kinder than before, Ming Yue is still very worried and does not know why His Highness suddenly changed so much. Ming Yue urges Your Highness to tell Ming Yue whether this injury left Your Highness with any complications? If this is the case, Ming Yue might as well ask the Imperial Physician to come for a diagnosis and treatment.”

ZiLi’s heart froze, he had said so much that she was afraid that he had a problem in his head! Should he tell her: ‘Your Highness is dead, his body is now inhabited by a soul that has somehow crossed over?’ He could guarantee that if he said so, he would be dragged to QingShan 7 . Even though, there were no green mountains 8 here!

“Ming Yue, all right! I will be honest with you. In fact, after this injury, This Highness cannot remember certain things from the past. I didn't tell you because I was afraid you would worry. I didn't expect you to worry even more. If I had known, This Highness would have told you the truth!”

Ming Yue looked concerned at ZiLi after hearing this and that expression warmed ZiLi’s heart. He hastily reassured, "It’s nothing serious, just the loss of memories. Those bad memories are better when they are lost, right?"

After thinking about it, Ming Yue nodded in agreement, and the sadness on her face disappeared. “It is indeed better to forget those unpleasant things!”
